Most of those infected by H. pylori will develop chronic superficial gastritis , characterized by symptoms such as gas, bloating, pain in the abdomen, vomiting, nausea, acid reflux, etc.

Another condition highly associated with infection by H. pylori is Peptic Ulcer disease. Almost all those suffering with peptic ulcers are infected by H. pylori, (the exception being those ulcers caused by non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). Doctors do recommend that those suffering with this disease seek treatment. since they are confident that infection by H. pylori will result in a peptic ulcer.

A disturbing correlation has been noticed between infection by H. pylori and some gastric cancers and lymphomas. Studies have proven that infection by H. pylori will greatly increase the risk of developing intestinal type, differentiated gastric adenocarcinoma. H. pylori eradication therapies are being used in such cases with 60-70% success rates.

Recently a relationship has been suggested between infection by H. pylori and coronary artery disease. Further studies must be performed before any conclusions can be made.
