PICTURE BOOK AND VALUABLE LINKS

Researchers Barry Marshall and Robin Warren changed the course of gastroenerology forever when they found H. pylori to be the bacterial agent responsible for ulcer formation and gastritis

H. pylori is a spiral shaped, Gram negative rod that measures approximately .5 * 3 micrometers. It is endowed with 4-6 flagella which aid in motility.

This image illustrates the colonization of gastric mucosa by H. pylori

Here we see a gastric biopsy removed for testing for the presence of H. pylori. Possible tests could include histological examinations, staining, or urease testing.

This image is a 1000x magnification of H.pylori ( black squiggly lines) in an antral gland .
